-------------------------------------------------------------------------- SOFT-ICE MINI-HOWTO Brian Reifsnyder Jan 23 2000 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As requested, here are instructions on installing Soft ICE (v 2.8) on FreeDOS: (This is how I did it, anyway.) 1. Setup a PC running FreeDOS. 2. Make a C:\SI subdirectory 3. Boot the FreeDOS PC with an MS-DOS boot disk and copy the Soft ICE disk to C:\SI (I used an MS-DOS boot disk because FreeDOS's copy command doesn't work too well, yet.) 4. Make a new CONFIG.SYS file on C:\ with only ONE LINE as follows: DEVICE=C:\SI\S-ICE.EXE Note: I have seen some testing that indicates FreeDOS only loads the first device driver correctly. 5. Make sure that C:\SI is in the path statement in the C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 6. Remove any floppy disks and re-boot. 7. To run a program under Soft ICE type: LDR program
